The passing parade - Tourauto 2ooo

We are constantly amazed by the different things that happen over here in 'la belle France' but also frustrated by the singular lack of publicity that surrounds these, sometimes, quite fantastic events.  Such as the motor car race that drove through the centre of our own town just a couple of days ago on it's way from Paris to Biarritz.

Fortunately for us, thanks to a friend who also lives on the route, we got to hear of it in time and were able to wander down into the centre to see what was afoot.  And what did we find??   The sponsor's (Optic 2ooo) shop front completely hidden behind stalls offering free eye-tests, a mass of publicity, maps etc. two pretty young girls in (very) tight, white outfits and the inevitable cake-stall - nothing happens in France without food being involved....

Then came the excitement of the cars as they swung into the sharp left-hand turn to drive up the short hill, paused for the bottles of water handed out by the girls and, with a massive roar of their exhausts, pulled off past the crowd and on to their next destination (Poitiers) using only the small village roads.

For lovers of Jaguar E-types and that golden age of touring-racing car there was no equal as the parade of slinky shapes with all their shiny paintwork and the 'beautiful' people behind the wheels revved and roared their way past.  A couple of scarlet Ferraris added a bit of the Monaco touch, right here in our small town.
